Doğal olarak
eşimle aynı fikirdeydim. Hükümetimizin pek çok münasebetsizlikleri var ama beni
en çok rahatsız eden şu Silivri meselesi, Ergenekon’lu
Balyoz’lu komplo davaları,
gazetecilerin, akademisyenlerin, aydınların, askerlerin sudan sebeplerle
tutuklanması, hapsedilmesi, adaletle ilişkisi kalmamış davalarda tekrar tekrar
hakim karşısına çıkartılmasıydı. Bunun hemen arkasından eğitim sistemimizin
dibinin çıkartılması, milletin ümmete dönüştürülmesi uğruna taklalar atılıp
sonra da yapılanlara ipe sapa gelmez kılıflar bulunması geliyor.
Beni rahatsız eden üçüncü mesele de dini gelenekler hurafe noktasına gelene kadar şişirilirken milli geleneklerin silinmeye çalışılması, rüyalarda beliren ak sakallı dedelere ve cinlere doğaüstü güçler atfedilirken milli kahramanların aşağılanmasıdır. Bunlar bana göre AKP’nin üç affedilmez günahıdır ve bu blog’u hazırlarken bu konularda yoğunlaştım. Anayasayı yapboz oyununa çevirmeleri, 12 Eylül 2010 referandumunu kazandıktan iki sene sonra bile halâ kurcalamaları, Başbakan Erdoğan’ın “Başkanlık sistemi” konusundaki israrı, muhalefetin karşı koymak yerine müzakerelere katılarak sürece yasallık vermesi pek bu sayfalara konu olmadı. İşçi hakları ihlâllerine, toplu işten çıkarma sevimsizliklerine de yer vermedim- ( Grev yaptıkları gerekçesiyle 29-31 Mayıs arasında işten çıkarılan 305 THY görevlisi gibi!) Hükümetin çevreye duyarsızlığına değinmediysem farkında değilim demek değildir: Kaz dağı’nda (mitolojik İda Dağı) altın arayan kırk şirket ve altın madenciliğinde kullanılan sihyanürün çevreye zararını biliyorum. "Güvenilir" Rus teknolojisiyle yapılacak üç nükleer santral projesinden de haberdarım- Akkuyu (Mersin), Sinop ve İğneada (Kırklareli) hedefteydi- çevreciler İğneada’nın longoz ormanlarına gelecek tehlikeden dolayı çok uyardılar. Neticede anlaşılıyor ki İğneada yerine şimdi Ankara yakınındaki Nallıhan’ın ismi öne çıkmış- çevreciliklerinden değil, nihayet Kırklareli İstanbul'a çok yakın! Milli servetlerin haraç mezat satıldığının da gözümden kaçtığını sanmayın, 17 Aralık’ta böğaz üzerindeki iki köprünün ve sekiz tane otoyolun satıldığı haberini de kaçırmadım. PKK militanları askerlerimize, polisimize, hatta halkımıza saldırılar düzenlerken hüküm giymiş hapiste yatan Abdullah Öcalan’la doğrudan müzakerelerde bulunduğunu da biliyorum, ve işin ucunun bir iç savaşa kadar uzanma ihtimali olduğunu görüyorum.
Kentsel dönüşümün aslında “rantsal dönüşüm” olduğunu da anlamak zor değil; zaten kalabalık şehre daha yüksek binalar yaparak aynı alana daha da çok insan ve otomobil tıkıştırmanın depreme karşı tedbir almak sayılamayacağını görüyorum.
Kimisinin özgürlüğü de bu! Tam hükümetimizin gönlüne göre bir "eylem".

Hükümetimizin Suriye’deki karışıklığa aktif olarak bulaşmasına, durduk yerde savaş tamtamları çalmasına da pek az değindim. (Bkz. “Sivil Hükümetin Savaş Tamtamları”, 19 Eylül 2012.)
O konuları
başkaları tartışsınlar- tartşıyorlar da! Nihayet o konuların çoğu tartışmaya
açık, çok yönden bakılması gereken meseleler. Gittikçe artan enerji
ihtiyacımız, Esat rejiminin içyüzü, Kürt vatandaşlarımızın hoşnutsuzluklarının
nedenleri... bunların hepsi ciddiye alınması, üzerine eğilinilmesi gereken
konular. Hükümetimizin problemlere yaklaşımını doğru bulmasam da sıhhatli
alternatifler önerecek gücüm ve bilgim olmadığı için blog’umu o kadar kapsamlı tutmuyorum.

2013:İstanbul’da yağmurlu bir Cumartesi. Kadıköy’e gittik, Silivri’deki Ergenekon ve Balyoz tutsak ve sanıklarıyla dayanışma için. Vardığımızda meydan
boştu; herhalde kimse yağmur altındaki meydana ilk gelip dikilen olmak istemiyordu.
Ta ki bir kahraman belirene kadar!
Yaşı biraz
ileri bir beyefendiydi. Bir elinde şemsiye, diğerinde bir bayrak vardı.
Bayrağın sapına iliştirilmiş kendi eseri bir şiir vardı. Bir şairdi bu bey, ve
yüksek sesle kendi yazdığı manileri okuyor, yalnızlığına ve yağmura aldırmadan
duygularını dile getiriyordu. Gelen geçenler durdu, dinledi, sözleriyle ve
alkışlarıyla desteklediler. Göstericiler toplanana kadar devam etti; eminim ki,
baştan niyet etmedikleri hâlde oradan geçerken onu duyup katılanlar olmuştur.

Çekinmeden
ismini bize söyledi. Ben burada aktarmıyorum; belki fazla tedbirliyim ama neme
lâzım: onu tutup Silivri’ye götürmezler elbette, ama son yıllarda ne kadar çok “intihar”
vakası olduğunu farkettiniz mi?

Günün diğer bir kahramanı da 78’lik bir hanımefendi. (Yaşını kendi söyledi; hanımlara yaşı sorulmaz!) Islanmış, birbirlerine yapışmış kâğıtlardan Silivri duruşmalarındaki usulsüzlükler hakkında bilgi vermek için uğraşıyor, şemsiyelerin üzerinde patırdayan yağmuru çok da güçlü olmayan sesiyle bastırmaya çalışıyordu!
Güçlü bir hanımefendi!

Bu insanlara saygı duymamak, onlar karşısında kendimi küçük hissetmemek zordu; toplumun o yaştaki insanlara verdikleri rolü, sıcak bir evde rahat bir emeklilik yaşamını kabul etmemişler, her hava koşulunda kendilerini ortaya atarak bozuk gördükleri birşeyleri düzeltmeye çalışıyorlar.

demonstration in Kadiköy; it’s close by so we have no excuse, we ought to
attend!”
“What’s it
for this time“?” I asked.
“Solidarity
with the inmates at Silivri!”
Of course I
agreed with my wife that we should go. Of all the dubious activities of our
government, the one that bothers me the most is the wholesale arrests of
journalists, academicians, intellectuals and officers.[1]
A close second is the tampering with the educational system to brainwash the
young into a fundamentalist-Islamist frame of mind.[2] Then comes the downplaying of national traditions while pumping up religious
ones, in tandem with the discrediting of national heroes while nurturing cults
of mystics with supposed supernatural powers.[3]
This blog has focused on these three cardinal sins, as I see them, of the
AKP government: I have not commented on its tampering with the constitution[4],
its abuse of labor rights (like the wholesale firing of striking Turkish
Airlines employees[5]),
its disregard for the environment (deals with Russia for nuclear energy plants,[6]
or the environmentally unsound extraction of gold by a foreign companies at the
Kaz mountains- the Mount Ida of
mythology[7]),
the selling of national resources (the bridges and highways were only the latest
to go[8]),
its dealings with the PKK insurgents which may well lead to the dismemberment
of the country- if not civil war[9],
the urban renovation plans that serve the interest of contractors at the
expense of displaced populations,[10]
and I have only briefly mentioned its meddlesome warmongering attitude vis-a-vis Syria.[11]
Let others discuss those issues- as they certainly do! There might be pros and
cons to those cases- like rising energy
needs, the nature of Hafiz Assad’s
regime in Syria and the discontent of the ethnic Kurdish citizens, and though I
don’t agree with the way the AKP deals with these, I concede that they are
not issues that need to be addressed from different viewpoints.
January 12th, 2013: a rainy Saturday in
Istanbul. We went. The demonstrators were not there when we arrived. No wonder,
it was raining, and no one seemed to be
willing to be the first standing alone out there getting wet. Until a hero
appeared.
It was a gentleman ripe in years, umbrella in
one hand, flag in the other. To the flag was attached a cardboard with a poem
written on it, written by himself and addressed to the US He was in good
cheer, and as soon as he saw us, started reciting his own patriotic poems, loud
and with much gusto.
The poems
were in simple quadruplets, following a folk tradition[12],
marked with wit and sincere emotion. People stopped, listened, expressed
support with applause and exclamations of agreement. He continued until the
demonstrators gathered, almost certainly there must have been some passers-by
who had not planned to participate until this brave man caught their attention.

He freely shared his name with us; I
am being over scrupulous in not sharing it here, seeing how vindictive some
dark powers can be in this country.[13]
The poem carried by the courageous gentleman-poet. It is addressed to the U.S.

I feel
humbled by these people: they are brave, they refuse the socially acceptable
role assigned to them- a quiet retirement in a warm home- but go out there in
all kinds of weather in an attempt to make a difference.
And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom
fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their
sakes.

after winning just enough support for their new constitution on the referendum
of Sept. 12th, 2010, the tampering has gone on unabated, and the opposition
unexplicably lends it’s support by entering negotiations. Prime Minister
Erdoğan favors the adoption of a presidential system, and does not hide his
ambitions for becoming that President with expanded powers.

nuclear plants are projected; one at Akkuyu (Mersin), the other at Sinop, İğneada
(Kırklareli) was a favored option for the third, much opposed by
environmentalists who feared for the priceless
flooded forests of the region. Now it seems to have been replaced by Nallıhan
(Ankara).

Paris supposedly gave the apple to Venus in a beauty contest between godesses.
The mining for gold involves the use of cyanide, very risky for the
environment. According to mayor Uğur Gökhan of Çanakkale district , 40
different companies are in in the goldrush: “Let’s give them our wives’
bracelets and tell them to beat it!” he says.

December 17th 2012, sales of the two suspension bridges over the Bosphorus and eight
highways were concluded.
[9] Even as
the PKK continues its raids mainly of military outposts and convoys in the southeast (but also as far
west as in Foça, near İzmir, where a bus carryinng military personnel was
bombed on July 9th, 2012) causing a steady stream of deaths, the government
negotiates directly with Abdullah Öcalan, the convicted leader of the
organization who apparently still exercises extraordinary influence from his
prison cell on Imralı island.

Istanbul and the Marmara region was shaken by a mighty earthquake on August
17th, 1999. Much was said about the need for tighter construction codes and
supervision. The AKP government has taken this as a license to virtually
recunstruct the entire city of Istanbul,
sometimes demolishing entire neighbourhoods. The new buildings are said to be
better built and more earthquake resilient. They are also much taller, effectively
crowding more people- and their cars- into the already crowded, congested, and
polluted metropolis. The extra floors mean profit for the contractors as well
as for homeowners who are lured into the scheme with promises of upgraded
property value and perhaps an extra flat in the new new building. Tenants
simply have to move out to where they can afford the rent!
The two towers in the centre are supposedly "earthquake-safe" new constructions. Actually, there are two more just behind them. costituting a set of four.

Entanglement in the government’s “conspiracy” roundups like Ergenekon and Balyoz (“Sledgehammer”) is a relatively mimor peril, reserved for
high profile names. There have been suspiciously frequent occurences of
“suicides”!

certain Orhan Aykut, who as eyewitness has declared the incriminating evidence,
